The Punjab government honoured several distinguished educators from Ludhiana during the 77th Republic Day celebrations held at Punjab Agricultural University (PAU). The recognition highlighted their significant contributions to academic development, community welfare, and the improvement of educational infrastructure across the region.
Led by Punjab minister Harbhajan Singh ETO, the district administration acknowledged the efforts of principals from various government institutions who have played key roles in elevating the educational standards in Ludhiana. Among the awardees was Suman Lata, Principal of Government College for Girls, Ludhiana. Under her leadership, the college achieved a NAAC ‘A’ grade with a CGPA of 3.22, the highest score among government colleges in Punjab. She dedicated the award to her staff and students, noting that the college has also prioritized cultural preservation through the establishment of “Virasat Ghar”, a special centre showcasing Punjabi heritage.
Another award recipient was Kawaljot Kaur, Principal of Government Senior Secondary School (GSSS), Ayali Khurd. She was recognized for her contributions as both an educator and a community leader. Since 2016, she has successfully secured CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) funding to add 10 classrooms, improve sanitation facilities, and strengthen water infrastructure at her school.
Deputy Commissioner Himanshu Jain praised her active involvement in recent flood-relief efforts as well.
The honours further extended to Pardeep Kumar, Principal of GSSS Smart School, PAU. With a career in education spanning since 1997, he was acknowledged for his long-term dedication to enhancing school infrastructure through community participation. Reflecting on his earlier posting in Ghadiyana Kalan, he noted how local villagers collaborated to upgrade school facilities, a model he intends to continue even post-retirement.
Other notable awardees included Rajinder Kaur, Principal of Government School in Daad village, and Manoj Kumar Jambla, an education department official. The recognitions collectively highlight a growing movement toward developing “Smart School” ecosystems in Ludhiana, where community engagement and corporate support are increasingly supplementing government initiatives.
